I’m starting to get excited about this year’s pilgrimage to SXSW Interactive (it will be my fourth year attending and speaking). I know the panel picking process is very competitive so I feel honored to have been chosen to reprise the What Teens & Tweens Want In A Web Site / Application panel, which will happen Saturday evening at 5 p.m. For those of you who were not at SXSW last year or missed my recap, the session involves me moderating a panel of Austin teens/tweens ages 13 through 18 in a focused discussion about how they are using technology right now. There is video of last year’s panel, but you have to scroll through to find it.
It’s also cool because the kind folks at SXSW give these teens day passes so that they can walk the expo floor and check out (the always popular) ScreenBurn area. Big thank you to the very cool women at OneSeventeen Media for recruiting the tween/teen panelists.
While we’re not having an official Ypulse evening event this year, I am organizing dinner/drinks for folks in the youth space who want to get together after the panel. We will be meeting for food/drinks (separate checks) at Threadgill’s at 6:30 p.m. after my panel Saturday, March 14th. Please RSVP if you plan to join us (we have a reservation for 25 right now).
In my desire to highlight all things “Youthy” at Interactive, I’m going to list some of the other sessions that caught my eye.

If you attended SXSWi 2008, you know Mike’s off the cuff sketchnotes series was a huge hit after the conference. It’s easy to see why. They wrap up everything fun and memorable about the conference into eye catching moleskin pages. Well good news, he’s back for 2009 and from the sounds of his blog post, he’s been hired to do them for SXSW in an official manner. Congrats Mike! We like seeing other people doing something for themselves that ends up being a big hit (like…us!).
SCHED* even worked it’s way into one of last year’s pages:

ADD TO YOUR SCHED* and View on FacebookIt’s the return of the biggest party at SXSWi - the second annual Bigg Digg Shindigg, Now with 100% More Diggnation! Come join Revision3 & Digg for an evening of revelry, music & mayhem at the world famous Stubbs BBQ.
We’re featuring a live Diggnation, great music from acclaimed band Republic Tigers, DJ Mancub (Space Cowboys) spinning tunes late into the night, and more to be announced. We’ve got a few more tricks up our sleeve, but you’ll have to show up to find out. As always, this is a free event to attend, and no SXSW badge is needed…just spread the word and we’ll see you there!

This looks pretty damn cool- Low Line Caller, Lemurs, something from the guy from American Analog Set- plus comedy from Eugene Mirman. I’ll be there for the Eugene for sure, (He was Hi-larious at book people last wek, and he was just reading). I’m thinking this show may make for a good combo with the Bright Kite part over at the Purevolume House, starting the madness off this year waay to early. Nothing like a hungover tuesday.

My favorite: “Ditch a big party early in the week to catch up on your sleep. Otherwise you’ll be dragging the rest of the week.” So true.
I like to dig around sometimes and see what people are up to. These are popular URL-shortening services and what people have used sxsw-related keywords to link to:
